How to scan a QR code from an image

Choose a photo or screenshot that contains a QR code, drop it on the box, or paste it with Ctrl+V or ⌘V. The code is read in your browser.

What the link check looks for

Scam QR codes on parking meters, letters and posters often hide where they lead. Before you open a link, the scanner shows its real domain and flags common tricks: no HTTPS, lookalike letters, a bare IP address, a link shortener, or text before an @ that disguises the real site.

When a link looks fine

If a QR code asks you to pay, sign in or enter card details, go to the company's website or app yourself instead of following the code.

Common questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is read by code running in your browser and never leaves your device.

Why can't it find a QR code?

Crop closer to the code, use a sharper or brighter picture, and make sure the whole code, including its three corner squares, is in the image.

Can it read Wi-Fi or contact QR codes?

Yes. Anything that isn't a web link is shown as text, so you can see what the code contains before you use it.

What is quishing?

QR code phishing: a scam that hides a fake login or payment page behind a QR code, often stuck over a real one on a parking meter or sent in a letter or email.

Can I use my phone's camera?

Yes. On a phone, Choose image lets you take a photo with your camera.
